Progressive gymnastics set to begin at Fort Fairfield

FORT FAIRFIELD — The Fort Fairfield Recreation Department will offer a progressive gymnastics program under the direction of Lorelei Locke, beginning April 27.

Locke was a competitive gymnast for Caribou High School until 1975 and went on to coach in private clubs in California and Australia. Since returning in 1984, Locke, with the support of recreation and school leaders, has established several successful gymnastics programs in the County.

The goal of the program is to offer year-round instruction in all aspects of artistic gymnastics, including regular exhibitions and competitions. Classes for the first session will be held Saturdays, April 27-June 1, at Fort Fairfield Middle School.

For pupils interested in competition, the session plans to include meets with the Caribou Gymnastics Club and the Penobscot Valley Gymnastics Club, but the classes will emphasize gymnastics for exercise and fun. Competition will be optional, according to recreation officials.
