LEWISTON – The Bates College baseball team swept a twinbill from the University of Maine-Presque Isle 5-3 and 16-2 Saturday.
In the first game, the Bobcats scored their winning runs in the fourth inning. Chris Plante doubled to lead off the inning. After a balk advanced him to third, David Burr knocked him in with a single to left field, breaking a 3-3 tie.
Steve Bucci then singled Burr to third and Chris Comrack hit a sacrifice fly to score the fifth run.
Comrack earned the win on the mound, pitching 4 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. Rick LaFleur pitched the final inning for his first save of the season.
Tim Collins led the Bobcats offensively with a solo homer in the second inning.
For the Owls, who scored all of their runs in the second inning, Corey Duguay forced in a run when he was hit by a Chris Ryder pitch and Marc Keller followed with an RBI single. Mike Bisson then hit a sacrifice fly to score the third run.
The 3-7 Bobcats were led by Chris Plante in the second game. He singled twice, doubled and knocked in 4 runs. Steve Bucci added a single, double and an RBI.
For the 1-9 Owls, Chris Dutton hit a solo homer in the fifth inning.
