This is to express my deepest gratitude to Douglas M. Mullen, refuge manager at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, for speaking out publicly in his guest column, “Moosehorn Refuge manager answers critics of land acquisition” (BDN, March 20).
Mullen presented facts that needed to be stated. It is obvious he truly represents the best of what Maine people are about. He has shown through his actions that he cares about the land, Maine’s needs, and the future of Maine people.
It would appear that if the people of Cutler think the Washington County Alliance has their best interets at heart, they are wrong. The only interests they seemingly care about are their own, as characterized by their “I’ve got mine and you’re not getting any” attitude.
Their attacks on Mullen or anyone else who takes a different position than their own have been rude, meanspirited, and untruthful and represenatative of a selfish, greedy position.
Hopefully, this is not represenatative of the people of Cutler who should ask themselves who really represents their best interests. Mullen has proven through a lifetime of devotion where his heart and soul are. What has the Washington County Alliance proven other than that they are masters at half-truths, misinformation and disinformation? David Whalen Machias
