ROCKLAND — The parent support groups of Mid-Coast Children’s Services will sponsor a workshop titled “Parents and the Special Education Process” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. The workshop is being presented by SPIN (Special Needs Parent Information Network).
The design of this workshop covers P.L. 94-142 and the Maine Special Education Regulations (Chapter 101) Sec. 504. The special education process is explained in layman’s terms and covers the process from how referrals are made through the P.E.T. and I.E.P. process. The workshop looks at ways parents can work effectively with schools by becoming better informed of their rights and the rights of their children. According to officials, this training is especially helpful to parents whose children are just entering the special education system or for those who desire an update or additional information.
The program is free and will be held at Mid-Coast Children’s Services, 11 Maple St.
