Braves rip UMF 11-1 in softball

Sue Teeney drove in four runs with a double and a single and pitcher Crystal Hinton tossed a 4-hitter as Husson College defeated the University of Maine-Farmington 11-1 in NAIA softball action in Bangor on Friday.

Husson capped the victory with nobody out in the bottom of the fifth when Shelley Young scored from third base on an errant pickoff attempt by the UMF catcher. The game was then called under the 10-run rule.

Husson moved to 7-11 with the victory while the UMF Beavers slipped to 5-4.

For Husson, Teeney stroked a 3-run double in the bottom of the first to give the Braves a 4-0 lead. From there, Michelle Provenchal added a two run single and Vicki Diaz-Rubin had an RBI single to help pace Husson to the victory.

Hinton surrendered four hits and walked just two while striking out three for the Braves.

For UMF, Michelle Russell had two of the Beavers three hits.
