SOUTH PORTLAND — The Maine Council of Churches will sponsor an evening of preaching, music and commitment Friday, May 10, at the Church of the Nazarene, 525 Highland Ave., South Portland.
Jim Wallis, editor of Sojourners magazine, and Ken Medema, singer and songwriter, will be in the Portland area as part of their second national “Let Justice Roll” tour.
Peace and justice groups will have an opportunity for displays and socializing at 6:30 p.m. The concert will be held at 8 p.m. Admission costs $10, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
“With so much of our work with the churches and the broader community focusing on justice issues,” said council director Tom Ewell, “we are thrilled to be able to bring these nationally recognized leaders to Maine to share their insights. We envision an event that cuts across the lines of race, color, religion and gender, and offers Wallis’ prophetic vision, illustrated by Medema’s powerful music.”
Wallis and Medema also will lead a breakfast meeting Saturday, May 11, for the leadership of Maine’s grassroots peace and justice groups.
“An exciting movement of conscience is occurring among Christians across the world,” Wallis said. “People of faith are deeply engaged in their work — we hope to strengthen that.”
