SKOWHEGAN — Lakewood Theater has scheduled its first major fund-raising event of the year, according to Bruce Hertz, president of Curtain Up Enterprises.

“A Night at the Theater” will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Village Candlelight Restaurant on Madison Avenue in Skowhegan.

Hertz said there would be a fashion show, a buffet and a dance.

All proceeds from the $20 admission fee will benefit reconstruction of the theater, specifically reshingling the roof and replacing sills, he said.

Hertz said Kathleen Lewia of Norridgewock and Debra Susi of Pittsfield “have done a fantastic job” of coordinating the fashion show, that will feature more than 60 models. Stores from Skowhegan, Waterville, Madison, Pittsfield and Farmington are providing clothes, jewelry and accessories, and there will be more than 100 door prizes offered.

The buffet will be prepared by Florence Stearns, and music for the dance will be provided by Richard Webber.

Information about tickets can be obtained by calling 474-7176.

A second event, a square dance on May 9 at Mount Blue Junior High in Farmington, is still in the planning stages.

Hertz said that more than 150 people responded to recent auditions for the 1991 Lakewood Theater summer season, which was “more than double last year.”
