BIDDEFORD – The University of New England and the University of Maine-Farmington split a softball doubleheader played here Tuesday afternoon.
Behind Karen Bailey’s shutout performance, UNE defeated UMF 4-0 in the first game while Beaver bats came alive in the second game to defeat the Red Knights 10-5.
Lisa Nejezchleba had a single, double, and RBI to lead UNE. Jennifer Cullen and Karen Thurston each had two singles for the 12-6 Knights.
For UMF, 7-6, Gail Sanborn and Debbie Gagnon each singled twice.
In the second game, Lisa Pulley’s three-run triple highlighted a six-run fifth inning to lead the Beavers to the win.
Gagnon, Sanborn, and Lisa Everett all posted two singles each.
