BROWNVILLE — Officials at the Brownville Elementary School have announced that a presentation of the New England Vaudeville Revue will be held Friday, May 10, at the school. The program is made available through a grant from the Maine Arts Commission for partial cost of the program.
The first presentation will be held at 9:30 a.m., with Milo Elementary School pupils attending. At 12:45 p.m., the second presentation will be held, with Atkinson and LaGrange Elementary School pupils and the Milo Elementary School afternoon kindergarten pupils joining the Brownville pupils for the presentation.
Benny and Denise Reehl, core members of the New England Vaudeville Revue, will introduce pupils to the “revitalized” art of vaudeville entertainment. The performance will include the use of mime, juggling, comic two-act sketches, monologues, melodramas, magic and music, presenting a wide range of characters and original stories. The originality, spontaneity and versatility brought to the stage by vaudevillians generates energy and excitement to audiences of all ages.
Famous vaudevillians, from which some of the program will be based, include George M. Cohan, Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor, music; Houdini and Blackstone, magic; W.C. Fields and Bobbie May, juggling; Marx Brothers, Mae West, Will Rogers, George Jessell and George Burns and Gracie Allen, comedy; and Fred Astaire and Gregory Hines, dance.
Each presentation is approximately 45 minutes long.
