The Bangor Rams defeated the Caribou Vikings 8-0 and 3-2 in a high school baseball doubleheader at Garland Street Field in Bangor Saturday.

Rob Estey led Bangor to victory in the first game as he shut out the Vikings through six innings of work, striking out 7 and walking none, to earn his second victory of the season. Estey went 3 for 4 at the plate, including 2 triples. Kevin McIntyre added 3 singles and 2 runs batted in for the Rams.

For Caribou, Derek Thibodeau, Kendall Roy, Josh Babbidge, and Chad Theriault all singled.

The Rams edged the Vikings in the second game by taking advantage of three walks and two hit batsmen in the three-run fourth inning. Mark Reed had an RBI single for the 4-0 Rams and Rob Spreng and Rob Estey both singled. Chris Pickering got the win on the mound and Spreng recorded a save, pitching three shutout innings in relief.

For the 0-2 Vikings, Glenn Lavelle belted a two-run triple in the first inning and Ralph Nappo and Chris Martin both singled. Lavelle pitched the complete game, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 8.

At Dexter, Carl Cobb went 4 for 4 with 4 singles as the Tigers topped the Golden Bucks.

Trevin Cobb and Ryan Dearborn both added a double and a single each for the 2-3 Tigers and Darren Clukey singled twice. Dearborn pitched the complete game to improve his record to 2-1.

For the 2-1 Golden Bucks, Matt McLaughlin singled twice and tripled.

PI sweeps Hampden

At Hampden, the Wildcats remained undefeated with a doubleheader sweep of Hampden Academy, including a 1-0 win in the first game in which dual 1-hitters were thrown.

The 4-0 ‘Cats completed the sweep with a 7-3 win in the second game.

Presque Isle’s Rob Wasson and HA’s Darren Dyer were the pitchers involved in the first game. Wasson struck out six and walked two in earning the win while Dyer fanned 12 and walked three as the hard-luck loser.

In the top of the third, Jay Hayward doubled for PI. Aaron Buzza then hit a shot to rightfield where an error was made allowing Hayward to score.

George O’Connor had singled for HA in the second.

In the second game, Ken Cameron singled, doubled, and drove in a run to lead the Wildcats to the win.

For 1-2 Hampden, Darren Dyer doubled while O’Connor and Jason Dyer each had an RBI single.

Madawaska, Searsport split

At Searsport, the Owls made the long trek to Searsport on Saturday to face the host Vikings. The teams split the doubleheader with Madawaska winning the first game 11-5 and Searsport winning the nightcap 12-4.

In game one, Gary Nadeau scattered seven hits to hold Searsport at bay. For the Owls, 1-1, Kevin Cole doubled, singled, and drove in two runs while Paul Hebert added a double, single and one RBI.

For Searsport, 3-1, Melvin Grant singled twice and Shane Roberts had two hits, one being a double.

In the second game, Grant took the mound and limited Madawaska to five hits. He added two singles to complement the two-single, one-double, two-RBI effort of Roberts. Elmer Deans added a double and a single.

For the Owls, Roger Ouellette doubled and singled.

At East Millinocket, Roger Morin (1-1) struck out 13 batters, walked 4 and scattered 10 hits to pace the host Schenck Wolverines past Penquis of Milo.

For the 1-2 Wolverines, Peter Brown doubled twice and drove in 2 runs. Josh Smith had a double, single and 2 RBIs.

Eric Lundin belted a 2-run homer in the first inning, doubled, singled and had 3 total RBIs for the 0-3 Patriots.

At Lee, Steve Coombs singled and doubled and earned the win on the mound as the Pandas defeated the Lakers.

Aaron Knowles and Dwayne Grass added 2 singles apiece for 5-0 Lee and Mike Jipson and Jerrod Rushton both had RBI doubles.

Travis Carpenter singled twice for the 1-2 Lakers and Jason Simpson had an RBI single.

At Ashland, Hodgdon’s Jarrod Stewart pitched a 2-hitter and hit a double to lead the big win over the host Hornets.

For the 2-1 Hodgdon Hawks, Robert Foley singled twice.

Singles by Aaron McLean and Josh Ash provided 0-3 Ashland with its only hits of the game.
