PRESQUE ISLE — People interested in learning about the procedures and equipment used in treating patients in intensive-care, special-care and progressive-care units may attend a fair at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle.

The event is sponsored by TAMC and Genetech.

Activities at the fair are designed to explain and describe services and the types of diseases most often treated in the units. TAMC professionals will present information on heart disease, stroke, lung disease and trauma. Tips on healthy-heart nutrition will be offered.

“It is our intent to educate and familiarize people with the role of the special-care and progressive-care units, and the purpose of the equipment used in these units,” said Peggy Foster, R.N., head nurse of the intensive- and progressive-care units at TAMC. “We will also stress the importance of the role the patient’s family plays in the healing process.”

Emphasis also will be placed on risk factors of heart disease, lung disease and strokes, and treatment of the illnesses. Demonstrations will include a variety of medical equipment.
