WINTERPORT — The Maine Department of Transportation will bring its Grader Operator Training Program to Winterport on Monday, May 20.

The program, described by DOT officials as award-winning, will give local equipment operators a chance to expand their knowledge and skills, courtesy of the DOT’s Maine Local Roads Center.

Each operator will have an individual daylong session with trainer Ernest Danforth, who has more than 40 years of experience in grader operation, DOT officials said. The monthlong program will include classroom sessions and the “hands-on” session that includes shaping of the crown and shoulders, ditching, and grading of roadside slopes.
