Big Bird Day, the annual “Birdathon” sponsored by the Bangor Nature Club and the National Audubon Society, will be held Saturday, May 18, as volunteers spot and identify as many species of birds as possible during a 24-hour period.
Sponsors for birdwatchers agree to pay individual birders based on the number of species documented during May 18. The event is open to everyone. Call Inez Boyd at 947-7700 for information.
The nationwide project of the Audubon Society produced more than $1 million for the society last year. The Bangor Nature Club has sponsored the project for the past six years, receiving half of the proceeds generated by the project.
