PORTLAND — The Boy Singers of Maine will kick off their spring season with a tour through Northern Maine. The group will leave Portland on Thursday, May 30, and perform in Bangor that day. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
They also will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the Congregational Church in Presque Isle. Other concerts will be at Fort Kent and Madawaskano times. Donations will be accepted at all concerts. The spring season will end with a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Portland.
The Boy Singers of Maine is a non-profit educational organization that gathers talented boys from Southern Maine and trains them in the European boy choir tradition. The choir combines high musical standards, teamwork and self-discipline to provide a well-rounded musical experience.
The boys have performed in concert throughout New England, New York Canada and England. They have sung in concert at the National Festival for Peace at the White House and have joined the stage with teh Leningrad Symphony orchestra in Debrovnik, Yugoslavia. The boys are best known for their appearances with the Portland Symphony in The Magic of Christmas. To round out their musical activities, the boys sing at local schools, hospitals and nursing homes, and at special functions including weddings, dedications, and church services throughout the year.
Stewart Shuster, musical director of the Boy Singers of Maine, is music director at the First Parish Congregational Church in Saco, a voice instructor at Bates College, and music director of the Ocean Park Summer Assembly, Ocean Park.
