SKOWHEGAN — Shane F. Reitze, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reitze of Skowhegan and Marie Reitze of Wilton, has been invited to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Reitze completed two months of intensive language and religious study last week in Provo, Utah, before leaving for the Northern Lisbon Portugal Mission, one of 256 Mormon missions worldwide.

Reitze has held positions of leadership in the Skowhegan Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has helped to prepare him for this mission.

Reitze completed his education through a GED program in 1989 and has worked to earn money for the mission. Church missionaries serve at their own expense or that of their families.

In Portugal, he will be assigned a male companion and both will proceed to carry out the church’s mission work. On his return, he plans to continue his education and resume voice training.
