BOSTON – The Red Sox have recalled righthander Jeff Plympton from their Triple-A Alliance affiliate to replace injured lefthander Matt Young on the roster, the team announced Thursday.
Plympton, 25, is 2-0 with 5 saves in 19 relief appearances with the Pawtucket Red Sox this season.
Young was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with an injury to his left shoulder.
Plympton was Boston’s 10th-round draft pick in the 1987 June draft from the University of Maine at Orono. He earned 13 saves in 37 games with New Britain before being promoted to Pawtucket in 1990.
In Triple-A, Plympton is 3-0 with eight saves.
