MARS HILL — Mars Hill Future Farmers of America chapter member Amanda Barker of Bridgewater was awarded $100 at the state FFA convention for winning the state FFA Specialty Animal Production Proficiency award. This award program recognizes outstanding agriculture education students for their ability to produce and market efficiently animals such as bees, miniature horses, fish and pheasants.

Barker will compete against four other state winners for the national title. The four national finalists will receive a plaque, $250 and travel expenses to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Mo., in November. The national winner will receive an additional plaque, $250 and the opportunity to participate in the International Travel Seminar.
