HAD 4 grants consulting privileges to doctors

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Consulting privileges were granted to several physicians Wednesday by Hospital Administrative District 4 directors.

Those whose privileges were renewed were Dr. Howard Parker for orthopedic surgery; Drs. Frank Mroz, Mary Warner, David Warner, Hugh Caggino, Michael Halber, Charles Lynch Jr., Michael Pancoe, John Long, Don Factor and Robert Andrews for radiology; Dr. Daniel Steinke for dentistry; Dr. Bernhoff Dahl for pathology; Dr. Ellen Anderson for podiatry; and Gary Nye, physician’s assistant.

The directors discussed the billing for emergency room services with officials from Penquis Emergency Services, the firm that provides the coverage. The discussions focused on bad debts.

Approval was given to have the floors replaced in the two operating rooms and in the recovery room of the hospital.

The two seamless floors in the operating room will cost $8,670, and the floor in the recovery room will cost $2,815. The directors also discussed the replacement of the carpet in the conference room, but no action was taken on the matter.

Robert McReavy, executive director of the hospital, reported that the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organizations had forwarded a letter to the hospital commending it for making the changes that had been recommended by the joint commission.

The directors learned that there were only 153 admissions to the hospital in May, a decrease of 19.9 percent from the previous year.

While admissions have been down by 8 percent on a year-to-date basis, the utilization of nursery services has increased. In addition, there was a 14.9 percent decrease in the use of radiology services and a decrease in the emergency room of 8.6 percent compared with May of last year.

A loss of $21,306 from operations was reflected in the May income statement. On a year-to-date basis, there has been an operating loss of $45,158 and an overall loss of $57,431 for the eight-month period. The hospital’s gross revenue has increased by about 1 percent from last year.
