MACHIAS — The Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance, a non-profit literary organization, will sponsor a 1991 Megabooks contest that will conclude in September with the winner receiving 100 of the best Maine books published during the last year.

According to Eastern Maine Books in Machias, the grand prize winner will be announced in early September at the Maine Writers Center. Last year’s winner, Dorothy H. Holland of Lewiston, won the collection of books.

The alliance will sell tickets during July and August at member bookstores around the state, through Maine In Print, and at the alliance’s office at 19 Mason St., Brunswick. The collection will be on display at the office, and tickets are $3 each or two for $5.

The collection features more than 80 Maine authors and illustrators, and many of the books are autographed. It has something for all readers. Included are 24 children’s books, 20 works of poetry, 15 novels and short-story collections, several books on Maine art and artists, and more than 30 works of nonfiction, such as histories, cookbooks, biographies, how-to and recreation books.
