A golden opportunity

I read in your paper (on July 10) that Bangor police arrested a man for growing marijuana in his house. Using “sophisticated growing equipment,” the plants had an estimated value of $175,000. That’s unbelievable!

The report stated that 70 plants were found. That’s $2,500 a plant.

You must have a misprint. No farmer in the world can get $2,500 for one plant, particularly an annual plant that matures in less than six months. A 100-year-old pine tree won’t bring that much money.

If your quoted valuation is even close to the truth then the people have a right to share in this lucrative opportunity. This state is in an economic crisis, the government has been closed for business, the people need every opportunity they can to recover from this recession — higher taxes won’t save or revitalize this economy, new opportunities will.
