Husband-wife physicians join TAMC medical staff

PRESQUE ISLE — Jose Rivera Tungol, a neurologist, and Dinah Tungol, a psychiatrist, joined the active medical staff at The Aroostook Medical Center in July.

Jose Rivera Tungol received his medical degree in 1976 from the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery, Manila, Philippines, and completed a neurology internship in 1980 and residency in 1984 at the Metropolitan Hospital, New York Medical College in New York.

Tungol completed a residency in surgery in 1978 at the Philippine Heart Center for Asia, Philippines, and a rotating internship in 1977 at Makati Medical Center in Manila, Philippines. He is a candidate for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Upon completion of the neurology residency in 1985, Tungol opened a private practice in Smithtown, N.Y., prior to relocating to Lewiston.

He served as chief neurology resident at the Metropolitan Hospital and was named Benemeritus, M.D., at the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery in 1976.

Tungol is a member of the American Medical Association, Maine Medical Association, American Academy of Neurology and the Androscoggin County Medical Association.

Tungol’s spouse, Dinah, also joined TAMC’s medical staff in July.

She received her medical degree in 1976 from the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery in Manila. She completed a general psychiatry residency and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the City Hospital at Elmhurst, Mount Sinai Services in New York. In addition, Dinah Tungol completed a residency in pediatrics at the Hospital of the Infant Jesus in Manila. She was a staff psychiatrist at Jackson Brook Institute in South Portland.

The doctor was named most outstanding intern of the year at Makati Medical Center in 1977, graduated emeritus in 1976 from the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery, and was chief resident from 1982 to 1983 at City Hospital at Elmhurst.

She is a candidate for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry, and has been a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, Maine Medical Association and the Androscoggin County Medical Association.

Both Dr. Jose Rivera Tungol and Dr. Dinah Tungol’s offices are located at 172 Academy St.
