The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened a district office at 304 Hancock St., Bangor, said John B. Miles Jr., New England OSHA regional adminstrator.

Miles said the new office would allow officials to focus on service to northern Maine and for more timely assistance for the working people of Maine.

The office will cover Aroostook, Piscataquis, Penobscot, Washington, Somerset and Hancock counties. The manager will be Paul Cyr, who will head a staff of seven, including four compliance officers and two industrial hygienists.

Brewer elections

Registered voters in Brewer interested in running for the City Council, the school committee or the high school district trustees can pick up nomination petitions at City Hall.

Voters in the city will elect two councilors, two school committee members and one trustee on Monday, Sept. 30. Nomination petitions must be returned to City Hall by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The terms of Councilors Larry Doughty and Ronald Harriman, of School Committee members Ruth-Marie Spellman and Thomas Manship, and of Trustee Edward Youngblood will expire.
