TOGUS – Shawn Fontaine opened the game with a homer and John St. Onge belted a two-run homer later in the first as Biddeford moved into the championship round of the State American Legion Baseball Tournament with a 10-6 winners bracket triumph over A & M Transmission here Saturday.
The win for 22-6 Biddeford avenged three regular-season losses to 23-5 A & M Transmission of South Portland.
Biddeford scored five more runs in the third inning as run-scoring singles by Dave Foran and Craig Pendergrass and Jon Dion’s two-run triple over the first base bag keyed the rally.
Biddeford made it 9-0 in the sixth when Pendergrass singled home St. Onge, who had doubled.
Jason Lariviere, 5-2, hurled 7 1/3 innings of 8-hit, 4-run baseball to pick up the win. He fanned 11 and walked 10. Kevin Moulton finished up. St. Onge and Foran had three hits each for the winners with Moulton and Pendergrass getting two apiece. Steve Oliver and Pat O’Quinn had four hits apiece for A & M and Dave Ekelund had two.

Augusta 11, New Auburn 8
At Togus, Augusta rallied to take the lead for good with a pair of seventh-inning runs on Adam Mitchell’s double, a walk and run-scoring singles by Tom Ziebart and Steve Beaudoin and Rex Turner walloped a two-run homer in the eighth.
Righty Aaron Dostie went the distance in ousting the defending state champs. He gave up 12 hits while striking out six and walking two.
Tony Miner had a pair of hits for the 23-8 Augusta.
Mark Ballard, Chris Reed and Mike Hayward had three hits apiece for New Auburn, which finished at 25-3. Matt Strong had a triple and three runs batted in.
