Bingham’s Mason collects Unity win

Motor Sports

UNITY – Scott Mason of Bingham picked up his third Sport 4 feature win of the season while Sam Herrick of Burnham had his best-ever finish, highlighting Saturday night’s racing action at Unity Raceway.

Mason edged out three-time defending points champ Al Buker of Clinton for the win. Herrick came in third.

In other action, Steve Nelson of Albion picked up checkered flag No. 11 in the limited sportsman class, holding off Ed Drake of Burnham. Charlie Colby of Edgecomb was third.

Late model sportsman: 1. Bobby Ellison, Derby; 2. David Wilcox, Glenburn; 3. Dave St. Clair, Liberty

Charger: 1. Mark Bogue, Wilton; 2. Larry Burgess, Winslow; 3. Dick Turner, Liberty

Strictly street Sedan: 1. Rick Burgess, Oakland; 2. Dana Strout, Waterville; 3. Stuart Libby, Union

Strictly street sportscar: 1. Todd Cummings, Coopers Mills; 2. Scott Chubuck, no town given; 3. Kenny Lord, Unity

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford, Tracy Gordon of Strong raced to the checkered flag winning Saturday’s Winston Racing Series action on Saturday. Al Hammond of South Paris was second and Dale Shaw of Center Conway, N.H., was third.

In other action, Charlie Martin of Windham won the 80-lap charger track championship by holding off Steve Blood of Lovell and Kenny Robbins of Dixfield.

Street stock: 1. Ricky Rolfe, East Stoneham; 2. Mark Cyr, Mexico; 3. Charlie Sites, Poland

Compacts: 1. Clay Leavitt, Fryeburgh; 2. Benji Rowe, Turner; 3. Joe Treadwell, Auburn

Beech Ridge Speedway

At Scarborough, Mike Maietta of Scarborough withstood the challenges of Paul Johnson of Hollis and Bob Randall of Sanford to earn the late model sportsman victory on Saturday.

Johnson and Randall finished second and third, respectively.
