HOWLAND — Work has begun on improvements to 10 miles of I-95 north in Howland, Mattamiscontis and T2R8, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

The project begins on I-95 north a half-mile north of the Route 155 exit in Howland and extends north 9.9 miles, ending a half-mile south of the Lincoln interchange.

Removal of the top layer of pavement in travel and passing lanes and repaving with a thicker layer will be done. The paving will complete plans made on the original construction project. Lane Construction Corp. of Meriden, Conn., is the contractor at $996,043. The project is due for completion, July 1.
