Maine’s champion pie baker will be selected at the Crisco American Pie Contest Oct. 3 at the Fryeburg Fair.

The first-place winner will receive $300 worth of prizes, while the second- and third-place finishers will get $100 and $50, respectively. The winning recipe also will be entered in a countrywide contest to determine regional champions and a national grand-prize winner. The grand prize is a new kitchen worth $10,000.

Blueberry was the category selected by the fair to best represent the state’s agriculture, history and traditions. Each entry must be an original recipe and not entered in any other contest at the fair. Entry deadline is 10:30 a.m. the day of the contest. The champion will be selected at 11 a.m. at the Agricultural Exposition Center, Expo 5.

Children at least 6 years old can also win prizes in the Parent and Child Crisco American Cookie Celebration held on Sept. 28 at the Fryeburg Fair. The team of an adult (18 or over) and child with the most delicious “scratch” chocolate chip cookies will win $300 in cash and prizes as well as an opportunity to compete for a national grand prize of $5,000. Entry deadline is 11 a.m. Sept. 28.
