OLD TOWN — Work on Irving Bridge, which called for closing the structure and completing work late in October, will be delayed, said Maine Department of Transportation officials.

A revised schedule will be devised in the winter or spring to replace the bridge deck.

Some area businesses told DOT officials that closing the bridge for six weeks would have an adverse effect on them and state officials agreed to an altered schedule, said Alden G. Small, DOT deputy commissioner.
