NEWPORT – Nokomis High avenged an earlier loss to Maine Central Institute, blanking the Pittsfield Huskies 3-0 in a schoolboy soccer game here Thursday afternoon.
The outcome carried a lot of Heal Points as Nokomis went to 7-3-1 and MCI to 7-3.
Donnie Day and Jeremy Brooks scored in the first half for the Warriors with Adam Baldwin and David Diez, respectively, assisting.
Nokomis goalie Jake Hughes was equal to the task, stopping 4 shots on 5 MCI tries.
MCI goalkeeper Jeremy Hamlin had 9 saves on 12 shots.
Orono 1, Old Town 1 (2OT)
At Orono, the Old Town Indians surprised Orono with an early lead and held on to notch a tie with the Red Riots.
Brett Stoyell drew first blood for Old Town with a first-half goal assisted by Andy Trice. Matt Shorette made three saves on four shots.
For the 8-3-1 Red Riots, Jamie Beaudoin scored the tying goal on a penalty shot late in the second half. Mark Thibodeau made two saves on three shots.
Bangor 3, Hampden 0
At Hampden, Jay Hannon had a goal and an assist to help pace the Bangor Rams to the victory over Hampden.
For the 10-2 Rams, David Hamel and Parke Oldenburg each scored a goal. Mark Hannon and Mark Reed notched assists. Billy Newman made five saves on six shots for the shutout.
Scott Orchard and Pat Foley combined to make seven saves on 12 shots for the 1-9 Broncos.
Ellsworth 6, Bucksport 1
At Ellsworth, freshman Andy Higgins scored two goals as the Eagles improved to 9-1-2. Ellsworth has won or tied their last 11 games after losing their first game of the season.
Travis Coffin, Johan Magner, Bob Perry, and Ricky Miles each chipped in with a goal for the winners. Perry and Heath King each notched an assist. Goalies Perry and Pat Jude combined for 4 saves on 7 shots.
For 4-9 Bucksport, Larry Kimberlin scored off a Brent Emerson assist. Goalie Lucas Graychase made 8 saves on 14 shots.
Bangor Christian 2, DI-S 1 (OT)
At the Bangor Christian field, Peter Small converted a Matthew Lassell pass with 3:04 left in sudden-death overtime to give the Patriots the win over the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners.
Lassell scored an unassisted second-half goal for the 4-7 winners and goalkeeper Clint Jackson made 8 saves on 10 shots.
Joey Stinson scored off a Jon Haskell pass in the first half for the 3-7-1 Mariners. Goalie Bennett Morey made 22 saves on 25 shots.
Hermon 3, Searsport 3
At Searsport, the two teams battled through regulation and two overtimes without determining a winner.
For Hermon, Scott Shaw and Matt Johnson each had a goal and an assist. Andy Beylerian added an unassisted goal. Justin Shaw made 13 saves in net, facing 18 shots.
Searsport (4-5-3) got goals from Mike Solovei, Seth Brown, and Justin O’Donnell. Seth Brown assisted on O’Donnell’s goal. Jason Krienke made 15 saves in net, facing 18 shots.
Valley 1, Greenville 0
At Greenville, Basil Messer scored unassisted on a breakaway early in the first half to give Valley of Bingham the shutout victory over Greenville.
For the 8-5 Valley Cavaliers, Rob Peabody recorded three saves on 12 shots for the shutout.
John Morrill saved three of five shots for the 3-7-2 Lakers.
Penquis 2, Dexter 0
At Dexter, Penquis of Milo scored two first-half goals against winless Dexter to boost its record to 7-5-1.
Troy Chase and Troy Crocker had the Penquis goals with Jason Boucher and Keith Freelove assisting.
Patriots goalie Matt Grindle stopped all 6 shots he faced.
The goalie for 0-11 Dexter, Shawn Masterson, had 18 saves on 30 shots.
Lubec 7, Temple Christian 0
At Lubec, the Hornets had too many weapons for the winless Seahawks, led by Donnie Farrell’s two goals.
Adam Davis and Craig Warren had a goal and an assist. John Marzold, Corey Pesce and Corey Greenlaw chipped in goals.
The goalkeeper for 10-3 Lubec, Dewayne Porter, faced only four shots and had two saves.
Chip Logan had 28 saves on 44 shots for TCA of Ellsworth.
Sumner 3, John Bapst 1
At East Sullivan, Jessie Grossjean had a goal and an assist to help lead host Sumner to its seventh win of the season.
Donnie Dyer and Travis Mercier each scored a goal for the 7-2-4 Sumner Tigers. Travis Trails had an assist. Goalies Roy Warren and James Swartz combined for 17 saves on 20 shots.
For the 3-5-3 Crusaders, Todd Hunter made seven saves on 24 shots.
