LUBEC — A slide show on the acquisition program by the Land for Maine’s Future Board will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in Room 102 of the Science Building at the University of Maine at Machias.

The Quoddy Regional Land Trust, Eastport Land Trust and the University of Maine at Machias Science Club will sponsor the program.

Shackford Head in Eastport and Tide Mill Farms in Edmunds Township are among the pieces of property that will be shown in the program presented by Lissa Widoff, a member of the Land for Maine’s Future Board.

Several pieces of property have come under protection thanks to a $35-million bond passed by voters in November 1987. These lands include wildlife habitat, farmland, scenic areas, coastal lakes, river corridors, rare and endangered species habitat, recreational lands and wetland areas.

Public-private partnerships have been the cornerstone of the Land for Maine’s Future Board, with nearly $1.8 million in cash and land having been contributed toward land purchases.
