Coaches of the Downeast Athletic Conference met recently to make their DAC All-Star selections in volleyball and cross country.

Five girls are repeat selections for all-conference cross country honors while four return to the volleyball all-conference team.

Conference champion Narraguagus of Harrington leads the cross country All-Star balloting with five members of that team earning All-Star honors, followed by three each from Jonesport-Beals and Washington Academy of East Machias, and one from Machias High School.

In volleyball, four-time champion Washington Academy topped the list with four honorees followed by DAC runnerup Narraguagus and Jonesport-Beals with three each, and one each from Woodland and Calais.

Narraguagus Coach Ric Lamereau was named DAC cross country Coach of the Year and Mike Look of Washington Academy received his fourth straight coaching honor in volleyball. Look’s teams have won four titles in five years.

Veterans returning to the DAC all-conference cross country team are Gretchen Backman and Beverly Smith, Jonesport-Beals; Jill Nicholas and Starr Nicholas, Narraguagus; and Stacy Lyford, Washington Academy.

Narraguagus runners honored by the DAC are Sara Cashman, Gladys Ganiel, and Jen Look. WA’s Elisa Diaz and Wanda Seeley were also selected along with Tennille Derickson of Machias and Crystal Alley of Jonesport-Beals.

Veteran performers on the DAC all-conference volleyball team are Washington Academy’s Dawn Cates and Natalie Harmon; Sandi Carver of Jonesport-Beals; and Tracy Mulholland of Calais.

WA honorees include Kari Dennison and Bobbie Preston. From Jonesport-Beals, Lynnette Beal and Suzanne Stevens; from Narraguagus, Carla Ganiel, Jen Kearns and Saundra Lord; and and Amber Monk of Woodland.
