ACAP election held for 1991-92 > Worker service awards given

PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook County Action Program Inc. held its 19th annual meeting Thursday to elect officers for the 1991-1992 year and present employee service awards.

Reynold Raymond, ACAP board of directors chairman, addressed the 240 people attending the annual meeting. He reflected on his experiences as chairman and recognized the network of employees responsible for providing the agency’s support services.

Through diligent, professional efforts, ACAP staff and management have made it possible for individuals to move to greater self-sufficiency and independence, Raymond said.

The chairman recognized newly-elected 1991-1992 members to the ACAP board of directors. Elected were: Timothy Crowley of Caribou, chairman; Florence Howe of Bridgewater, vice chairman; Stephen Richard of Presque Isle, treasurer; Raymond of Eagle Lake, secretary; Herschel Good of Monticello, parliamentarian; and Antoine Paradis of St. Agatha, member-at-large.

New directors to the board were Brenda Liston of Loring Air Force Base’s Family Support Center, Candis Roy, Oakfield town manager, and J. Susan Brown, Casco Northern Bank assistant vice president.

Dr. Lloyd Chase of Houlton, departing board member, was commended for his 18-year service to the board. Chase served as vice chairman from 1977 to 1983, and as chairman from 1984 to 1987.

“Under his leadership, ACAP experienced a 28 percent growth in revenues and implemented several important services,” said Raymond. “With Lloyd’s guidance and support, ACAP implemented a training program for nearly 100 farmers displaced by the closure of an operating farm, held the first Aroostook Teen Conference; accepted an invitation from UMPI (University of Maine at Presque Isle) to operate a day care center on the university campus …..”

Departing board members, Lori Leach of Presque Isle and Roy Green of Caribou, were also recognized for their services to the board.

Crowley presented Raymond with a gavel plaque for his services as board chairman.

“I feel a true sense of challenge and a deep commitment to the qualities that have made ACAP the success it is today,” said Crowley. “That success is the result of not any one person but of the concern and commitment of ACAP board members, staff, volunteers, communities, other organizations and citizens.”

Raymond recognized the following ACAP employees with 20-year awards: Jackie Anderson, Patricia Kelly and Lorraine Swann; 15-year awards: Phyllis Hagan, Marilyn Henderson and Marie Williams; 10-year awards: James Baillargeon, Marietta Cyr, Mary Duff, Richard Leach, Vaida Leach, Kathy Miller, Susan Powers, Carolyn Roberts and Linda Slauenwhite; and five-year awards: Kenneth Feller, Angela Gagnon, Linda Guillemette, Linda Jarvais, Lela Long, Pamela Saucier and Bonnie Stickney.
