MILO — More than $1,000 has been raised by co-workers of Lorinda Canney, who works at the Dexter Shoe Factory in Milo. Canney underwent surgery Dec. 3 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, for removal of a cancerous kidney.
For the past few weeks, Canney’s fellow workers have been holding fund-raising activities at the plant to aid her financially. Monday morning, the funds were presented to Canney’s mother, Barbara Towne, also an employees of the factory. Making the presentation was Michael LaPointe, Canney’s supervisor.
At the same time, Daniel Royal was awarded a gift certificate, one of the fund-raising activities, for a pair of Dexter shoes.
Organizer of the activities was Sue Coburn. At the presentation, Coburn announced that Canney was recovering at her home in Milo and would return to work as soon as possible.
