ORONO – Approximately 400 competitors are expected for the Black Bear High School Relays at the University of Maine field house Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Boys and girls track teams from Winslow, Brunswick, Foxcroft Academy, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Ellsworth, John Bapst of Bangor, Bucksport, Nokomis of Newport, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill, Old Town, and Brewer will be competing.
The Brunswick boys team and the John Bapst girls team should put on strong performances as well as teams from Brewer, Old Town, and Nokomis, according to Roland Ranson, the meet director.
Winslow is a new team to the meet and shouldn’t be ruled out as a determining factor in the results, Ranson added.
This is the second time the relays have been held. The first meet was held in 1990. The relays were scheduled for last year but had to be canceled due to inclement weather.
The university is hosting the meet with Brewer High School.
