BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

I am writing in reference to the recent food/gift basket effort coordinated by the town of Hermon for our citizens who needed some assistance this Christmas.

Because of our ever-growing general assistance lists and knowledge of the community, we wanted to expand our yearly program of putting together a few food baskets for families in town to a community effort/project. Our plea for help was overwhelmingly answered and because of so many generous donations, we were able to give nice Christmas baskets which included a Christmas dinner and gifts to more than 50 Hermon families.

We were amazed by the number of town citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations and town groups that brought donations, food, individual food baskets, homemade gifts, and homegrown vegetables. Some of the citizens who donated items could hardly afford to do so but wanted to help others in our town. There were so many donations that we could not even begin to list everyone.

We simply want to thank each and every citizen, business, and organization that helped make Christmas better for so many families this year. In a time in which it seems that nothing goes right and finances are not good, it was wonderful that such a positive community activity took place. Once again, our citizens and businesses are united in support of our community. Kathryn Ruth Hermon town manager
