Area gymnasium facilities available for indoor walking

MILO — Because icy sidewalks and roadsides and cold winter weather inevitably make walking for exercise a dangerous activity, gymnasium facilities in the Milo-Brownville area have been made for exercise walking for the elderly, anyone undergoing physical rehabilitation, and people who enjoy walking but not the cold.

The schedule for indoor walking at the Milo Elementary School is 8-10:15 a.m. Monday; 8-10:45 a.m. and 1:15-2:30 p.m. Tuesday; 2:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday; and 8-9 a.m., 10-10:45 a.m. and 1:15-1:45 p.m. Friday. In the event that special school programs are scheduled during those hours, a sign will be posted on the school door. Walkers should wear soft-soled footwear such as sneakers.

The schedule for the Brownville Elementary School is 7-11 a.m. and noon-3:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. On days when inclement weather forces pupils inside during recess, the gymnasium will be closed from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Soft-soled shoes, no boots, are required on the gymnasium floor.

The Milo Town Hall will be open during the winter months, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Arrangements may be made for weekend use. The gymnasium floor had been measured and distances will be posted for walkers to calculate how far they walk. Proper footwear is required.
