EAST MACHIAS — Troopers assigned to Maine State Police Troop J in East Machias responded to the following incidents in Washington and Hancock counties Dec. 25, 1991, through Jan. 5, 1992:
A Seal Harbor resident reported to state police on Dec. 25, that correspondence he received from a Delaware man “seemed to include threats to the president.” Trooper Thomas Perkins forwarded the information to the U.S. Secret Service for investigation.
Wayne Sower, 35, of Baring was arrested by Trooper Timothy Varney on Dec. 25 following a complaint in which Sower is alleged to have been involved in a domestic abuse situation.
Trooper Herbert Leighton is continuing his investigation into a series of mid-December complaints which included instances of criminal mischief in Talmadge; an accidental gunshot wound in Perry; and a burglary at Princeton Variety in Princeton.
Troopers Leighton and Bryan Higgins were dispatched to the Old Eastport Road in Perry on Dec. 28, in response to a report of a motor vehicle accident, and then a subsequent complaint reporting that the same vehicle had been stolen.
As a result of the investigation, James Trott, 31, of Perry, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license, driving to endanger, failure to provide proof of insurance and unsworn falsification. His wife, Rita Trott, 18, of Perry, was charged with filing a false public report.
Trooper Varney is continuing his investigation into a Dec. 28 complaint of theft of services and vandalism at the Gulf service station in Danforth.
Trooper Kelly Barbee was dispatched to a woodlot off Route 182 in Township 10 in response to a Dec. 30 report involving the theft of a Diamond snowplow.
Trooper Higgins was dispatched to the Downeast Correctional Facility in Bucks Harbor on Dec. 31, to investigate a report involving a suspicious package found by prison officials. Trooper Higgins is investigating the incident as a case of trafficking in prison contraband.
Two troll dolls and several other items with a total value of $150, were reported stolen on Jan. 1 from Kelly’s Flower Shop in Milbridge. As a result of an investigation by Troopers David Quigley and Stephen Pickering, two adults and two juveniles were identified as allegedly being involved in the incident. The stolen items were recovered and the suspects are expected to be brought up on charges stemming from the incident.
Trooper Barbee and Sgt. Wesley Hussey were dispatched on Jan. 4 to Route 187 in Columbia Falls to assist the Jonesport Police Department with the interception of a motor vehicle. According to state police, the occupants of the vehicle were allegedly involved in an altercation in Jonesport in which a threat had been made.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped on Route 187 in Columbia Falls, and its driver, Mark Porrini, 35, of Milbridge, arrested on an operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor charge. State police report that Jonesport police are conducting a follow-up investigation on the threat complaint.
Trooper Jeffrey Parola arrested Raymond Sweeney, 29, of Summerset, Mass. on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court in Biddeford. The arrest occurred during Trooper Parola’s investigation into a Jan. 5 accident on Route 1 in Jonesboro, in which Sweeney was involved.
