MAINE vs. DELAWARE

Time, site: Saturday, 6 p.m., at Newark, Del.

Records Maine 9-7 (2-1 NAC), Delaware 7-5 (0-1 NAC)

Series: First meeting

Key players: Maine – C Jess Carpenter (13.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg), F Tracey Frenette (12.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg), F Heather Briggs (12.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg), G Julie Bradstreet (10.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.3 apg, 4.4 spg), G Seana Dionne (3.7 ppg); Delaware – F Jen Riley (18.6 ppg, 6.9 rpg), F Molly Larkin (13.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg), G Jen Lipinski (11.3 ppg), C Colleen McNamara (10.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg), G Linda Cyborski (7.6 ppg)

Outlook: Game two of Black Bears’ road trip against the two new entries in the North Atlantic Conference. Both teams will be playing second game in as many nights. On Friday, Maine beat Drexel 61-45 while Delaware lost to New Hampshire by a 72-71 score. Blue Hens aren’t big (6-0, 5-10, 5-10 up front), but are quick. This will be Black Bears’ first look at Riley, who Coach Joyce Perry thought should have been a part of the preseason All-NAC team.

HUSSON vs. UM-PRESQUE ISLE

Time, site: Saturday, 1 p.m., at Newman Gym, Bangor

Records: Husson 13-1, UM-Presque Isle 7-6

Key players: Husson – C Steph Lebel (17.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg), F Anne Cote (14.2 ppg), F Michelle Hamlin (11.0 ppg), G Vicki Mazerall (9.8 ppg), G Kristi Wildman (7.1 ppg), G Darci Collins (6.8 ppg); UMPI – C Debbie Draper (15.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg), G Beth Corrow (13.4 ppg), F Jennifer McDonald (11.8 ppg), F Audra Karnes (5.7 ppg), G Lucy Moore (5.9 ppg)

Outlook: Husson already owns two wins over UMPI this season – one by 16 points, one by 25 points. Braves, ranked fifth in the nation for NAIA Div. II schools, have won four in a row with an average margin of victory of 38 points. Husson’s guards – Mazerall, Collins, and Wildman – have been playing well of late and, as usual, will look to pressure the Owls every time up the floor.
