Adams leads Terriers by Beavers

WATERVILLE – Mike Adams had 19 points and 10 rebounds to pace host Thomas College to a 103-97 victory over the University of Maine-Farmington here Monday in men’s basketball action.

For the 8-6 Terriers, Mike Gillespie scored 19 points, Brian Weed and Jim Ward each had 18, and Wayne Bartolucci added 11.

Wes Daggett scored 19 points for the 7-7 Beavers. John Mayo and Chris Bessey each scored 16. Kevin Shaw and Dan Header each contributed 15.

Bates 105, St. Joe’s 83

At Lewiston, Bates outscored St. Joseph’s of Standish 68-35 in the second half to give the Bobcats the win.

St. Joseph’s was ranked No. 1 in Maine prior to the loss.

Leading the Bates attack was Tim Collins with 23 points. Sean McDonagh and Brad Adams each chipped in 22, McDonagh also grabbed 10 rebounds. Darrell Akins and Keith Ferdinando followed up with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Jamie Header led the scoring for the Monks with 20. Also scoring in double figures were John Maloney with 16, Steve Schuler with 13, and Marcus Smith netted 10 points.

Bates improved its record to 9-3 while St. Josephs fell to 13-2. The Monks are ranked second in NAIA Division II.

At Unity, Adam Wheeler’s 36 points helped to lead the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners to victory.

Adam Goetz and Tony Mottola each scored 16 points for the 3-8 Mariners.

Dana Boynton had 15 points for the 5-8 Rams. Joel Pratt had 14 points while Phil Farren and Tony Therrien each tossed in 10.
