Maureen Hodge, a Bangor High School guidance counselor, has been presented Bentley College’s Excellence in Counseling award. Hodge was nominated by former student Jeff Rochefort, now a freshman at Bentley in Waltham, Mass. Rochefort cited Hodge’s assistance through high school and through the difficult college selection process.

Jane Wellman of Bangor was selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference last week in Washington, D.C. Due to her academic achievements, leadership and citizenship, Jane was among 350 students from across the country attending the conference. The students participated in a four-hour mock congress on gun control and assumed the roles of U.S. Representatives by debating, lobbying and voting on proposed handgun legislation.

Kari Ann Brewer of Hampden has been listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She is the daughter of Kim Worsfold of Hampden and Scott Brewer of Bangor.

Catherine Factor of Bangor has recently completed the first leg of a 12-month world tour with Cast B in Up With People, an independent, non-profit, educational and cultural organization. Factor will resume the tour in Skive, Denmark, and then continue on through Europe, visiting cities in Denmark and Belgium. The cast will return to the U.S. in February, visiting cities along the Atlantic coast.

Mika Cross of Bangor, a senior at Gould Academy, is one of four students to organize, edit and publish a new school newspaper. Mika, the daughter of Ms. Kerry Sack, is also on the girls basketball team.

David Harvey of Orono has received the 1991 Elson T. Killam Scholarship from the New England Water Works Association, the region’s largest organization of water works professionals. Harvey is majoring in civil engineering at the University of Maine and is the son of Robert and Sandra Harvey.
