MILO — Excitement grew throughout the afternoon at the Milo Town Hall as more than 75 spectators attending the Milo-Brownville Cub Scout Pack Pinewood Derby supported their favorites. Judges were kept on their toes with several near-dead heats.

After nearly two hours of competition, three winners were chosen to represent the pack at the Council Show in Orono in March: Joshua Jay, first place; Cory Barden, second place; Anders Hamlin, third; and Chris Jay will be the alternate.

Mary Jean Pokrywka, a parent volunteer, was pleased with this year’s race. “We have every Cub Scout in our pack participate in the derby. It’s the first time for sometime that we’ve had 100 percent participation.”

Den winners included:

Joshua Jay, first, Chris Jay, second and Jeremy Webb, third, for the Bears, with Cynthia Jay as den leader;

Cory Barden, first, Robert DuBois, second and Michael Lundin, third, for the Webelos first year, with Scott Lee, leader and Linda Herbest, assistant;

Anders Hamlin, first, Eli Ladd, second and Peter Bissell, third, Bobcats with Sheilah Bissell, leader and Sue Stetson, assistant.
