Walker, Monday help Huskies defeat Tigers

DEXTER – Maine Central Institute rebounded from a slow start to post a 50-35 schoolgirl basketball victory over the Dexter Tigers here Tuesday night.

Emily Walker led the way for the 10-5 Huskies with 14 points. Cory Monday scored 12 and Becky Vaughan nine for MCI, which trailed by three points at the half.

Mandy King netted 12 points for 9-6 Dexter, while Eva Wing chipped in with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Wendy Hanington added 12 points for 11-4 East Grand and Michelle Frye netted 10.

Jill Mathers led 8-7 Southern Aroostook with 17 points. Jessica Walker added 12 and Donna Grass 10 points.

Meredith Baker led the team in rebounding, pulling down 17. Baker also scored 15 points. Leading the scoring for Ashland was Dianna Belskis with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Hope Carney had double-figure scoring and rebounding as well, netting 13 points and snagging 15 rebounds. The Hornets are now 10-5.

Melanie Clark had 19 points to lead Central Aroostook. Paula Boyce added 13 for the 9-5 Panthers.

For PCHS, Elisa Thompson poured in 23 points and Karin Burdin had 10.
