Stevens seeks election to Maine House

ORONO — Kathleen A. Stevens of Orono has announced she will seek election to the Maine House of Representatives from District 130. Stevens is a Democrat and will run for the seat being vacated by John O’Dea, who has announced his campaign for the Maine Senate.

Stevens said that her education and work experience uniquely qualify her to represent voters in District 130. She has lived her entire life in the area and is a senior in the honors program at the University of Maine.

During the spring of 1991 she served as congressional intern in the Washington, D.C., office of U.S. Sen. George Mitchell, where she learned about the most important issues for Maine voters and the importance of being accessible and accountable to constituents.

Stevens is a student paralegal at the University of Maine Student Legal Office, where she has daily contact and exposure to problems and issues faced by Maine people. She has had experience as a real estate title abstracter with a Bangor law firm.

Stevens says that the most crucial problem facing Maine voters and the Legislature is balancing the educational, social and local government needs of Maine with the limited resources available to state government.

During coming months, Stevens said, she will visit all District 130 voters and learn about their concerns.
