Eddies, Cougars win `A’ crowns > Fort Kent skiers are skimeisters

BETHEL – The Edward Little of Auburn boys and Mt. Blue of Farmington girls ski teams collected state Class A championships here Saturday while a pair of skiers from Community High School in Fort Kent took home state skimeister honors.

For the third time in four years, Fort Kent’s Caryn Dumond, a senior, took home the schoolgirl skimeister honors, amassing just 17 points in three events last week. Dumond cruised to a 17-44 advantage over teammate Kristin Voisine for the title.

Adrien Marquis of Fort Kent, meanwhile, was the boys skimeister, scoring 74 points and edging out his nearest competitor by 14 points.

The Mt. Blue of Farmington girls used a strong cross country showing to unseat defending champion Fort Kent. The Cougars wound up with a 102-216 margin of victory over the Warriors for this year’s title. Edward Little was third.

By contrast, the boys meet saw the Red Eddies of EL use a strong Alpine showing to hold off Oxford Hills of South Paris 140-193 for the boys crown. Telstar of Bethel was third.

Mt. Blue finished the three-day meet in a flurry, winning both the boys and girls cross country relay events.
