On Jan. 25 and 26 firefighters from around the state were called to fight one of their biggest battles — against cancer. Teams of five firefighters raced downhill in full turnout gear, with 50 feet of hose to benefit the American Cancer Society, Maine Division. This annual event was held at Saddleback Mountain in Rangely and raised more than $1,300.

I would like to thank Greg Sweetser and Saddleback Mountain for their generous donations of time, lift tickets, race course setting, and items for the charity auction. The staff and surroundings were wonderful.

I’d also like to thank Fran Emmons and The Moosehead Resort and Ski Area at Big Squaw Mountain. They helped start the event two years ago and have helped it grow each year. This year the event was moved due to uncontrollable weather situations, and the Moosehead Resort was great in helping all changes go smoothly…. Colleen Pribble Assistant regional director American Cancer Society Brewer
