WATERVILLE – Angie Wilber’s steal and layup with 1:34 left in the game gave Nokomis of Newport the lead for good and keyed the Warriors’ 38-36 victory over Waterville here Wednesday in a Class A schoolgirl preliminary playoff game.
The win moves the 9-10 Nokomis Warriors into the No. 8 slot in the Eastern Maine tournament at the Bangor Auditorium. Nokomis takes on No. 1 Lawrence of Fairfield at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Laura Grumbach led the way for the Warriors with 15 points. Kelly Bowman hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 59 seconds left to ice the win and make it 38-34.
For the 10-9 Panthers, Laurie Lenz scored 12 points.
