WINTER PARK, Fla. – The University of Maine baseball team won its second game in the 45th annual Rollins College Baseball Week Tournament here Tuesday, rallying for a 13-10 victory over the Quakers of the University of Pennsylvania at Harold Alfond Stadium.

The victory was the third straight for John Winkin’s Black Bears who boosted their spring trip mark to 6-7 entering a 1:15 p.m. game Wednesday against the Nittany Lions of Penn State.

The Black Bears, who led 2-0, 5-3 and 7-4, were forced to stage a comeback after the Quakers scored four runs in the top of the seventh for an 8-7 lead. Maine then scored six times in the last of the eighth to go on top to stay.

In the big eighth, two Penn errors set the stage as Brian SScott reached on bobbles and Gabe Duross walked to load the bases. Mike D’Andrea pinch hit for Pete Radulski and drilled a hard single past third to score two runs and give UM an 8-7 lead.

Steve Epstein than relieved Penn hurler Ed Haughey, who had pitched well before the errors. Chris Altomari walked to load the bases again, and Justin Tomberlin hit a sharp single to score D’Andrea and Duross. Chad White followed with a booming triple to score the final two Maine runs.

In the ninth, Doug McEwen came on to pitch for the Bears, but two walks, sandwiched around Todd Wilson’s second double of the game, loaded the bases. Ben Breier singled home one run, and after Mike Green popped up, Tim Shannon singled home another tally to make it 13-10.

Former Maine quarterback Bob Zurinskas was summoned from the bullpen and two pitches later induced a grounder for a Shanan Knox-Tim Scott-Duross double play to end the game. It was the fifth double play of the game for the Black Bears and gave Zurinskas his second save in three days.

Penn slipped to 1-6.

White had three hits and three runs batted in for the Bears, Tomerlin drove in three with two hits, while Seguin, Stupienski and Altomari each had two hits.

Val Beaudet was the winner in relief of UM starter Jason Rajotte.

Wilson, with two doubles, two singles and two RBI was Penn’s lone repeater.
