ORONO – Kim Smith scored the game-winning goal en route to a hat trick and led Stonehill College of North Easton, Mass., to a 3-2 victory over the University of Maine here Sunday at the University of Maine Black Bear Invitational Indoor Soccer Tournament.
Smith scored the game-winner with two minutes left in the game.
For Maine, Jen Curran and Rhonda Pelkey each scored a goal.
The victory avenged Stonehill’s only tourney loss – to Maine – and gave the team the title. UMaine finished second with an identical 5-1 record. The UMaine alumni team was third. Varsity teams from University of Maine-Farmington, Colby College, and Boston University also competed.
Kim Dunn of Stonehill was named tournament MVP. Members of the all-tourney team included Smith of Stonehill, Brook Porteous of Colby, Lisa Couture from the UMaine alumni, and UMaine’s Christina Contardo and Jennifer Farina.
