Easter services celebrate resurrection of Jesus Christ

ALTON — Church services with the Rev. Phyllis Dodd will be held at 8:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at Alton United Methodist Church. Easter breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m.

ATKINSON — Atkinson United Methodist Church will hold services at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday. Preaching will be the Rev. James Lee-McPhee. Children’s activity time will be held.

BANGOR — Forest Avenue Congregational Church will hold services at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday, with breakfast 9:30-10:30 a.m. Second services with Communion will begin at 11 a.m.

First United Methodist Church will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday, with breakfast 7-8:30 a.m. Regular worship with choir music will begin at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

Grace United Methodist Church will hold sunrise services at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday by the Kenduskeag Stream, with breakfast at 7:45 a.m. at the church. Church school will begin at 9:30 a.m., and worship at 11 a.m.

Easter Vigil, with the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, will be held at 8 p.m. Holy Saturday, April 18, at St. John’s Catholic Church on York Street. Masses will be held at 7, 9 and 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Easter Sunday.

Easter Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Holy Saturday at St. Mary’s Church. Masses on Sunday will begin at 7, 9 and 11 a.m.

Bangor Church of God will hold prayer at 9:45 a.m. Easter Sunday. Sunday school will begin at 10 a.m., and worship will be held at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The pastor is the Rev. David R. Bean.

Redeemer Lutheran Evangelical Church will hold worship at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday at the church at 540 Essex St., Bangor. The Redeemer Women and youth group will organize breakfast to be served between the two services. Activity will be held for kids.

John Hall will sing at 10 a.m. Easter Sunday at Glad Tidings Church, 1033 Broadway. An Easter cantata, “The Lamb Has Prevailed,” will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Abundant Life Church will hold Easter services, with music by Ginger Walker and the church choir, at 10 a.m. April 19 at Dow Chapel, Texas Avenue.

First Baptist Church will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Pickard home on Pleasant Hill. Easter worship will begin at 10 a.m. at the church, 56 Center St.

Hammond Street Congregational Church will hold sunrise services at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at Bangor Municipal Golf Course. Easter worship will be held at 10 a.m. at the church. Nursery will be provided.

Sunrise services will be held at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at Essex Street Baptist Church. Easter worship will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Bangor Baptist Church will offer a concert by Duane Burke at 9:30 a.m. Easter Sunday.

Grace Christian Center will hold services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Easter Sunday at Bangor Conference Center.

First Church of Christ Scientist will hold services and Sunday school at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at 118 Harlow St., Bangor.

All Souls Congregational Church will hold services at 10 a.m. Easter Sunday.

The Salvation Army will hold sunrise services at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at the tower on Texas Avenue. Worship will be held at 11 a.m. at 65 Park St.

First Universalist Church will hold services, “The Energy to Rise,” at 10 a.m. Easter Sunday. Sunrise services will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Cascade Park.

BAR HARBOR — St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church will celebrate Easter Vigil at 5 p.m. Holy Saturday, April 18. A sung Eucharist will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m. Easter Sunday, and choral Eucharist at 10 a.m. Eucharist will be held at 5 p.m. Easter Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21.

BELFAST — Community sunrise services will be held at 5:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. Road conditions permitting, the services will be held at the Pavilion at the east end of Belfast Area City Park. If that is not feasible, the services will be held at the Belfast Area Landing at the foot of Main Street.

Midcoast Christian Fellowship will sponsor sunrise services at 5:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at the old Route 1 Belfast bridge. Breakfast will be served afterward at the fellowship, 117 High St., Belfast. Worship at 10 a.m. will feature the Covenant Players, presenting “Palm Sunday through Resurrection Sunday.” Easter dinner at 2 p.m. will be open to the community.

BINGHAM — First Congregational Church of Bingham will observe Easter Sunday with sunrise services at 7 a.m., led by children of the church school in the sanctuary. A pancake breakfast will be held afterward in the dining room of the Parish House. The Easter Festival service will be at 10:30 a.m., with music by the chancel choir. The Rev. Douglas Drown, pastor, will preach on “A New Beginning.”

BLUE HILL — St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church will hold church school at 10:15 a.m. Easter Sunday, and Festival Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. Nursery is available.

BRADLEY — Sunrise services will be held at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at Bradley Baptist Church, with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m., and worship at 10:45 a.m.

BREWER — First Congregational Church of Brewer will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday at Indian Trail Park, North Main Street. In case of inclement weather, the location will be moved to the church. Family services will be led by the Rev. Howard Haskell Tobak, interim pastor, at 9:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served 7:30-9 a.m., at a cost of $4 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Easter Vigil, the Night Watch of the Resurrection, will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Easter Sunday, with the choir participating at 10:30 a.m. The guest homilist will be the Rev. Paul Ruttle, provincial counselor for the Passionist Fathers in South River, N.J.

St. Teresa’s Catholic Church will hold Easter Vigil with the choir at 8 p.m. Holy Saturday, April 18. An Alleluia party will be held afterward at the parish center. Mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. Easter Sunday, with coffee afterward at the parish center. The choir will sing at the 11 a.m. Mass.

Easter breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 128 Pierce Road. The church youth will present a children’s program at 10 a.m., and worship services will begin at 11 a.m.

Second Congregational Church will hold sunrise services at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at the church on South Main Street. Easter worship will begin at 9:30 a.m.

St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church will celebrate Holy Eucharist at 8 and 10 a.m. Easter Sunday at the church at 21 Holyoke St.

North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday, with breakfast afterward. Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m.

BROOKS — First Congregational Church of Brooks will hold worship at 11:15 a.m. Easter Sunday.

BROWNVILLE — Brownville Community Church, United Church of Christ, will hold an Easter breakfast at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Parish Hall. The Easter services will be held at 8:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ann K. Stead as interim pastor.

CAMDEN — First Congregational Church will hold Easter services at 9 and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday. Child care will be provided.

CARDVILLE — The United Baptist Church of Cardville will hold services at 10:45 a.m. Easter Sunday.

CARIBOU — An Easter musical by Joe Parks, “He Lives,” will be presented at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday at the United Baptist Church, 74 High St., Caribou. A nursery will be provided, and a freewill offering will be received.

Faith Lutheran Church will hold breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at the church on Hardison Avenue. Easter services will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Beam is the pastor.

Easter Vigil with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults will be held at 7 p.m. Holy Saturday, April 18, at Holy Rosary Church. Infant baptism also will be held. Celebrants will be the Rev. CHERRYFIELD — First Congregational Church will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday in Weald Bethel Chapel. Easter worship will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Cherryfield Baptist Church will hold a rise-and-shine Resurrection service at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, with fellowship breakfast afterward. The church choir, directed by Cynthia Curtis, will perform “Come See the Place” at 10:30 a.m. Nursery will be provided during this service, and no evening services will be held.

CORINNA — Morse’s Corner Baptist Church will hold sunrise services at 5 a.m. Sunday in the church parking lot. The men of the church will serve Easter breakfast. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. Worship will be held at 10:15 a.m., and fellowship and praise at 6 p.m.

The choirs of Pleasant Street Christian Church and Stetson Union Church will present an Easter cantata, “Calvary’s Love,” at 6 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Street Christian Church.

CUSHING — The churches of Cushing and Friendship will hold sunrise services at 5:30 a.m. Sunday on the Bradford Point Road, directed by the Advent Christian Church Youth Fellowship. Afterward, there will be a community breakfast at the Friendship Hahn Community Center. The Broad Cove Church will hold an Easter service at 9 a.m. with special Easter music. The Advent Christian Church will worship at 10 a.m. with the Friendship United Methodist Church, and will feature baptism.

DEDHAM — Dedham Congregational Church, U.C.C., will hold services at 8 a.m. Easter Sunday. The interim pastor is the Rev. Paul Malicote. A community Easter breakfast will be served at 9 a.m.; donations will be accepted.

DETROIT — Detroit United Methodist Church will hold worship at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday.

DEXTER — Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah. The Rev. Cleon Ross will preside.

At the First Universalist Church, the Rev. Alex Craig will give the sermon at the 9 a.m. Easter service. Special music will be provided by the choir. Lila Cobb is organist and choir director.

There will be a 6 a.m. sunrise service at First Baptist Church, led by the Rev. Judson Stone. A breakfast will follow. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., and worship at 11 a.m. A cantata will be presented at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Seventh Day Adventist Church in celebration of Easter.

The Rev. Peter Temple will lead the 6 a.m. sunrise service at the First Free Baptist Church on Sunday. Worship will be held at 10:45 a.m., with a baptismal service at 6 p.m.

An Easter service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. The pastor is the Rev. Phyllis Webber.

There will be a sunrise service for Dexter and Ripley United Methodist Churches at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday in Dexter. Services will begin at 9 a.m. in Ripley, and 11 a.m. in Dexter.

DIXMONT — Sunrise services will be held at 6:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Dixmont Corner cemetery. A community potluck breakfast will be held 7-8:30 a.m. at the Ladies Club; no charge.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church will hold a community breakfast at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday in the chapel. Family worship will be held at 9:30 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Worship services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at the United Methodist Church, 38 East Main St. The Rev. EAST MACHIAS — A variety of choirs and musicians, directed by John Johnson and Ramona Lentovich, will sing during services at 11 a.m. Easter Sunday at First Congregational Church. The Rev. James Kurtz will deliver the sermon. Those attending should bring flowers to place at the front of the church. Sunday school is held weekly at 10 a.m., and nursery is available during worship.

EAST MILLINOCKET — Calvary Temple Assembly of God will present an Easter cantata at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday at 2 Orchard St.

ELLSWORTH — St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church will conduct sunrise services at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at Thompson Island. Easter breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. at the church, with Easter worship at 10:30 a.m.

Worship services with the Rev. Dr. Harry Meserve will be held at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ellsworth.

The Great Vigil of Easter, including baptism, will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church on State Street. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Easter Sunday. Eucharist at 10 a.m. will feature the choir.

FRANKFORT — Frankfort Congregational Church will hold worship, led by the Rev. James Wood, at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday. The choir will participate. Sunday school will not be held, and children are encouraged to attend worship with their families.

FRANKLIN — Franklin United Methodist Church will hold services with the Rev. Michael E. Davis at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday.

FREEDOM — Freedom Congregational Church will hold worship at 11 a.m. Easter Sunday.

GLENBURN — Guiding Star Spiritualist Church will hold candlelight Easter services at 2 p.m. Easter Sunday, at the home of the Rev. George Shaw, Outer Ohio Street. Shaw is a lecturer, healer and medium.

GUILFORD — The United Methodist Church will hold early services at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday at the parsonage on Route 15. The high school class will lead the services. The senior choir will sponsor Easter breakfast at 8 a.m. at Fellowship Hall, with proceeds going toward new robes for the His Kids Choir. Family worship services at 9 and 10:45 a.m. will feature the His Kids Choir, senior choir and soloists.

HAMPDEN — Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church will hold sunrise services at 6:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. Services also will be held at 10:30 a.m. The church choirs will sponsor an Easter breakfast 7-8:30 a.m.; a donation is asked of $3 for adults, $1.50 for children 4-12. Child care will be available during services; no Sunday school.

Hampden Congregational Church will hold sunrise services at 6:30 a.m. Easter Sunday in the parking lot. The eighth-graders will assist the deacons in the services. HOLDEN — Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. Easter Sunday at Holden Congregational Church. Worship will be held at 9:30 a.m., with special music by the youth choir and senior choir. The Rev. Robert C. Robb will give a sermon on “Authentic.”

MANSET — A sunrise Easter service will begin at 5:45 a.m. Sunday at the Seawall picnic area. A pancake breakfast will be served 7-9 a.m. at the Southwest Harbor church. Admission is $5 for families and $2.50 for single adults.

East Orrington Congregational Church will hold services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday. The Rev. Bob Carlson is the pastor.

Easter services and Family Sunday will be held at 9:30 a.m. April 19 at Orrington Center Church on Dow Road. The Rev. Nathaniel Pearson is the pastor.

PALMYRA — The Great Vigil of Easter and Holy Eucharist will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. Holy Eucharist will be held at 10 a.m. Easter Sunday.

PORTLAND — The Most Rev. Joseph J. Gerry, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, will celebrate Mass at 10 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

ROCKLAND — The Congregational Church of Rockland will hold a sunrise service at 5:45 a.m. in the chapel on the Samoset golf course. Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the church.

Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 6 a.m. in the church, with breakfast served afterward. Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m., and church services will be held at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church will hold Easter Sunday services at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s, and 9:30 a.m. at St. James in Thomaston. Easter Vigil Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Bernard’s.

SEBEC — An early service will be held at 8 a.m. Easter Sunday at Sebec Village Community Christian Church. A public breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. Regular services will begin at 10:30 a.m.

SOUTH THOMASTON — Peoples United Methodist Church and Pratt Memorial United Methodist Church of Rockland will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. on the church lawn at South Thomaston. Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. at South Thomaston, and at 10:45 a.m. at Pratt Memorial.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A sunrise Easter service will begin at 5:45 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Seawall picnic area. A pancake breakfast will be served 7-9 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Southwest Harbor. Admission is $5 for families and $2.50 for single adults.

Sunday worship services will be held at 9 a.m. at the Manset church and at 10:30 a.m. at the Southwest Harbor church. Sunday school in Southwest Harbor will begin at 9:15 a.m. The Southwest Harbor church will have music by the Hallelujah Chorus; nursery is available.

STACYVILLE — Easter breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at Stacyville Church. Worship will begin at 9 a.m.

SULLIVAN — Sullivan Harbor Independent Baptist Church will hold breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. Sunday school will begin at 9:45 a.m. Worship services are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and youth groups will meet at 4:30 p.m.

TOPSFIELD — Services with special music will be held at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at Topsfield Congregational Church.

WASHBURN — Mass will be held at 9:45 a.m. Easter Sunday at St. Catherine’s Mission. Organist Marion Tardie and the choir will lead the music. The Rev. Rene Mathieu will be the celebrant.

WILLIMANTIC — Easter services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at the Willimantic Community Chapel. A musical presentation from the crucifixion to the resurrection will be the Easter message.

WINTERPORT — Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at Winterport Baptist Church, with worship at 10:45 a.m. Interim pastor Al Sedgwick will give a visual presentation of the life of Christ, including slides of the Holy Land, during services at 6 p.m.

Ellingwood Corner United Methodist Church will hold sunrise services at 6 a.m. Easter Sunday at Newey’s Apple Stand. Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. at the church. Worship will be held at 9 a.m. at Ellingwood Corner, and at 10:30 a.m. at the Winterport UMC in the village.
