GORHAM – Verne Paradie belted a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning giving the University of Southern Maine a 5-4 baseball victory over Salem (Mass.) State here Wednesday.
For the 15-6 USM Huskies, Jim Broughton doubled and singled, Paradie had two singles and his homer, and Mark Caron singled twice. Mike Welch (2-1) notched the win in relief.
Scott Hyland hit three singled to lead the 16-7-1 Salem State Vikings. Steve Gridley hit a solo homer in the fifth and singled. Alan Wolf hit two singles.
