DeIeso, Ponies down PCHS

GUILFORD – Righthander Mario DeIeso fired a one-hitter, striking out six and walking eight, and Forrest Briggs hit a two-run homer to lead the Foxcroft Academy Ponies to a 5-2 win over Piscataquis Community of Guilford in baseball action here Thursday.

Trey Weymouth’s RBI single gave FA the lead for good in the first inning before DeIeso’s run-scoring single keyed a two-run second inning. Briggs homered in the fifth for the 1-1 Ponies.

DeIeso had a double to go with his second; Briggs had a single to go with his homer and Mike Smith singled twice.

Carl Larson’s fourth-inning single was the only hit for PCHS, 1-2.

WA Raiders 11, Lubec 1

At East Machias, Matt Mahar pitched a four-hitter, striking out nine in an abbreviated, 4 1/2 inning victory over the Hornets. It was the opener for both teams.

Judd Bragg had a double and single for Washington Academy, Paris Calor had three singles, and Jack Armstrong and Mahar doubled for the Raiders.

For Lubec, Carson Mahar and Joel Riggs doubled, and John Appleby and Josh Jones singled.

MA Lynx 6, Penquis 1

At Lincoln, Jim Hanscom threw a one-hitter and struck out eight while Chris Thornton’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth helped break open a tight game and key host Mattanawcook Academy’s win over Penquis of Milo.

For the 1-1 Mattanawcook Lynx, Jason Clifford hit an RBI single. Josh Vose and Dan McEachern each singled for the only other hits.

Troy Chase led the effort for 1-1 Penquis, pitching a four-hitter and striking out seven, and delivering an RBI single in the sixth.

Mount View 8, MCI 7

At Pittsfield, Shawn Reed’s RBI single proved to be the difference as the Mustangs from Thorndike edged Maine Central Institute. Reed’s hit plated Mike Shaw who had singled and stolen second in the sixth inning.

Bill Bolio had a triple and double for 1-1 Mount View, Chris Steiner had two doubles, and Travis Ripley tripled and singled.

For MCI, Vaughn Woodruff and Scott Huff both had a triple and a single, while Shawn Callahan added a double and single.
